An Update from Gordon Dalgleish, Chairman of The First Tee of Greater Wilmington

The First Tee of Greater Wilmington Construction has been completed on The First Tee facility at the MUNI. Recognizing that I am biased, I still think it is terrific. We had Mayor Saffo and the City Council to preview it on Tuesday morning and I believe they were all suitably impressed.

This is a civic amenity and a community legacy as a result of the Wells Fargo Championship which we very much want to share with as many people as possible. Images can be viewed here. The First Tee spring programming continues with a significantly increased level of participation which is a great start to our renewed chapter. Three important dates to consider supporting; Sunday, April 30 from 2pm – 6pm – Open House at The First Tee at the MUNI – We shall have some close-up contests, putting and other games of skill. We hope you can come and experience what we have built. Tuesday, May 2 from 3pm – 4.30pm – Excellence in Education – Wells Fargo – Succeeding Together Program – 3 PGA Tour Players in attendance. We shall officially open The First Tee facility with our participants on hand for the ribbon cutting. RSVP here. Tuesday, May 2 from 5pm – 7pm – PING at Landfall – With all of the proceeds going to The First Tee. 6 PGA Tour Players generously provided by PING shall be hosting the event which will include demonstrations and restricted access Q & A. Details here. All of these events will provide an opportunity to celebrate and support the impact of golf and The First Tee on the young people’s lives in our region. I very much hope you can find time to begin the week of the Wells Fargo Championship by participating. The funding we receive from the tournament is terrific, but we also need our community to wholeheartedly embrace the project. Any additional funds beyond our needs for capital funding shall be placed into an endowment to begin to build the assurance of a financially sound program which shall grow and by 2019 service 25,000 children in our three-county area. Thank you for your time and consideration and we look forward to welcoming you to The First Tee facility.
